The Campaign to Expand the Peter A. Krusch Nature Preserve Is a Success!

Thanks to the support of the Vermont Land Trust, grants from the Vermont Housing and Development Board, fundraising by the Friends of the Peter A Krusch Preserve, the support of the Cambridge Conservation Commission, the Town of Cambridge, and many generous donors the funds are now in place for the purchase and conservation of the adjacent 30 acres! The transfer of the land to Town of Cambridge ownership will take place in June. The land and the public’s access to it will be protected in perpetuity by conservation easements held by the VLT and the VT Housing and Conservation Board. Also, the new land provides access to the Village of Cambridge’s 115 acres Watershed; the Village Trustees will allow trails to be built on their property  (safely distant from the wells, of course).

Together this newly conserved land and the adjacent Cambridge Pines State Forest/Natural Area is part of a larger forest block identified by the State of Vermont as a Priority Connectivity Block and an Interior Forest Block, providing critical ecological connectivity on at statewide level. New loop trails will double  the existing Krusch Preserve trails and give access to nature on this lovely woodland. Trails are being designed and volunteers will undertake building them this summer.

The Interim Management Plan as approved by the Selectboard is at this link.
