Volunteers At The Preserve : 2024

In the last few weeks we have hosted two groups of volunteers working at the Preserve.

The first was an Eagle Scout project in May 2024 led by Truman Bates from the Green Mountain Council Troop 611.

The troop:

  • Blazed all three of our spur trails.
  • Removed an infestation of invasive Asian Honeysuckle from the Ostrich Fern Wetland.
  • Spread fresh gravel on several sections of trail that are prone to be muddy.
  • Built up the gravel fill on our crib steps that lead down to the bridge over the seasonal brook.

There is a small gallery of photos at this link. We offer our sincere thanks to Truman and his troop for their steadfast work.

The second group, in June 2024, was a twenty-strong Saugatuck Congregational Church High School Youth Group, who gave us a grueling day’s work under a hot sun up-rooting our well established invasive Asian Honeysuckle on The Sandblow. The group spent five days in Cambridge working on a variety of projects in a wild variety of weather. They were greeted in Waterbury by torrential rain and a tornado watch.   There is a small gallery of photos at this link. We gratefully thank the group for their invaluable work under tough condition
