MONARCH BUTTERFLY SURVEY, August 1st.

Saturday August 1st,  11 am to 2 pm

Meet at the Preserve Entrance and parking lot, 316 North Cambridge Road, Cambridge

Join our yearly survey of the Monarch Population on the Krusch Nature Preserve. We will locate milkweed plants and survey them for Monarch eggs, caterpillars, and chrysalises and scan the area for Monarch Butterflies. No special equipment is needed – just your observational skills and your time. We will have identification sheets for participants. We will file our report with the Vermont Atlas of Life/ Vermont Center for Ecostudies thus it will become part of the national and international database.

This project is part of the International Monarch Monitoring Blitz. Their  aim is to contribute a snapshot of the status of Monarch populations across Vermont each year during this critical time in their life cycle. The Blitz invites people across Vermont, and all of North America, to look for milkweed plants and survey them for monarch eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, and butterflies. This information helps us understand changes in breeding populations and productivity in different regions each year and to identify priority areas for Monarch conservation actions.
