BATS of VERMONT. August 20th, 2023

The bat walk held on August 20th was led by bat enthusiast Bill Giezentanner ( who is affiliated with Massachusetts Audubon) and was assisted by his wife, Elissa. Bill used a Wildlife Acoustics bat detector program. At the outdoor classroom and further along the trail, the detector picked up and recorded several Silver haired Bats in three locations.   The ten of us on the walk were excited about the night walk and the views of Silver Haired bats feeding over the field. The detector also picked up the echo location of a Big Brown Bat right over the parking lot. We sent the sound recordings off to the bat expert at VT Fish and Wildlife to report and confirm the identifications. Thank you to Bill and Elissa for sharing your knowledge.
